We drove from PA to see the castle. From what I read on the website on off peak season the castle was open 9-12 M-F. When we arrived at 11am Tues. Sept. 19 the castle was closed. Many other people were also confused as to why it was closed. Does anyone know why?

The castle is generally open 7 days a week from the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend thru Labor Day and then weekends only from Labor Day thru Columbus Day. There's a lot of information online. Unfortunately, a lot of it is not accurate and its hard for the state to get it corrected. The only site with accurate information is the official State Park Website.

The lights would not be left on that late. Futhermore, the park closes at sunset so it's tough to get pictures then. The roof lights of the castle do come on at night. If you were to stand on the Chester side of the Ferry and look toward the castle, it would probably make for some good photos.

The areas around the visitor center and castle are handicap accessible. There is a ramp that wraps around the left side of the castle and goes to the terrace. There are plenty of benches along the way. When the castle is open, the first floor is handicap accessible as well.
