The American Red Cross is working with the state Emergency Management office to provide support for shelters and warming centers in anticipation of a winter storm.

The organization is dealing with a severe blood shortage as hospitals need more than what is available.

“The holidays and winter months are typically a challenge to maintaining our blood supply,” said Nick Bond, CEO of the American Red Cross Western New York Region.
