American Red Cross Milwaukee volunteer workforce pushed to its limits
The volunteers of the American Red Cross of Wisconsin have been a busy crew for the start of 2026. That team has been dispatched to more than 20 fires in January, helping more than 100 people.

The cancellations follow more than 400 blood drives that were called off nationwide in December 2025 due to severe weather, according to the American Red Cross. Jade Poe, executive director of the American Red Cross for Central and Northern Missouri, said weather-related disruptions do not reduce the need for blood.
The need is greater than ever. The American Red Cross is asking for your help right now. The agency is facing a critical blood shortage as we enter late January.
The disasters range from local home fires to hurricanes. Authorities say volunteers make up 90% of the Red Cross workforce.
