Former MLB closer Bobby Jenks, who as a rookie in 2005 secured the last out of the Chicago White Sox's World Series clincher, is battling advanced stomach cancer. Jenks, now 43, disclosed the news during an interview with MLB.

On Saturday, Feb. 15, the 43-year-old retired MLB player revealed his Stage 4 adenocarcinoma diagnosis in an interview with MLB.com, amid the loss of his family's Pacific Palisades home in last month's California wildfires.

Former MLB closer and World Series champion Bobby Jenks announced on Saturday that he is battling stomach cancer. Jenks, 43, shared his current condition from a Portugal hospital bed during an interview with MLB.com Saturday morning.

Jenks, a two-time All-Star in the 2000s, told MLB.com’s Scott Merkin he is battling Stage 4 adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer. “You know, the [expletive] I was doing in my 20s and early 30s, no normal person would have survived,” said Jenks, who the White Sox regularly listed at 275 pounds.

Bobby Jenks, a two-time All-Star closer and World Series champion with the Chicago White Sox, is being treated for stomach cancer. Jenks shared his condition from a Portugal hospital bed in an interview with MLB.com on Saturday, and the White Sox later sent their best wishes via social media.

Jenks pitched seven MLB seasons, six of them with the White Sox. He won a World Series with Chicago as a rookie reliever and part-time closer in 2005. He worked as Chicago's primary closer for the next five seasons and was named an All-Star in 2006 and 2007. Jenks played his final MLB season with the Boston Red Sox in 2011.
