Southern California is bracing for a surge of summerlike heat this week with inland temperatures expected to climb into the 90s and potentially hit the triple digits in the San Fernando Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

Heat advisories remain in effect for several parts of Los Angeles County through Friday night. Afternoon highs will approach triple digits. Slight cooling is expected going into Memorial Day weekend.

Much of Southern California has been placed under a heat advisory on Tuesday as the first day of a four-day heat wave arrives. A ridge of high pressure will result in an extended period of hot weather this week,
