A bill that cleared the Legislature Friday will give six weeks of paid family leave to primary caregivers who are state employees.

The government has said it supports paid bereavement leave for couples who experience a miscarriage. Business Minister Justin Madders told MPs he "fully accepts" the principle of bereavement leave for pregnancy loss and promised to look at adding the right to the Employment Rights Bill.

Ministers were also able to head off a potential rebellion from Labour MPs over calls to increase paternity leave.
