Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on Wednesday touted a sharp decline in the city's homicide rate in the first half of 2025, saying that the 20% decrease has the city on pace for the lowest total in nearly six decades.

The city of Los Angeles is on pace for its lowest homicides total in 60 years based on the first half of the year’s data.

Experts say the city and other parts of the country may be in the midst of the sharpest decline in killings in history — one that can’t be attributed to any single factor.
