The James Beard Awards committee bestowed an America’s Classics Award on South Side icon and trailblazer in Chicago barbecue, Lem’s Bar-B-Q, today — cementing its status nationally as a cultural touchstone.

Officers were responding to a call of a knife-wielding man chasing another person in the Eggers Grove Forest Preserve near 114th and Avenue G.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the shooting, which police say came after a report of a man wielding a knife and chasing another person.

COPA responded to an officer-involved shooting on the Far South Side on Friday afternoon. CPD officials said a man was shot and critically injured, and an officer was taken to a hospital for observation.
