Jennifer Gilkerson never imagined that her West Virginia farm’s freeze-dried fruits would get caught up in political fights in Washington, D.C.

As a result, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture will lose $9.9 million in funding for local food assistance and $16.2 million for school food programs in fiscal year 2025, Gov. Phil Murphy’s office said in a statement.

More than 40 states, including Alabama, were signed on to participate in the program.
