Days after deadly storms dropped buckets of rain on Tennessee, a winter storm has brought a few inches of snow and bitter cold temperatures to the region. Areas north of Interstate 40 are under a winter storm warning where anywhere from 2 to 4 inches are expected with some local measurements up to 6 inches,

Following the snow on Tuesday evening, there will be a cold front that comes into the area through Friday with temperatures only returning to above freezing on Saturday.

Winter storm warnings are in place for 10 states from the National Weather Service (NWS) on Thursday, with up to 30 inches of snowfall expected in some parts of the U.S. Freezing temperatures may present health risks, especially for vulnerable groups such as infants and older adults.

Many students across Middle Tennessee will enjoy a second day off from school this week, as the region is set to experience a potentially significant snow event. On Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for portions of Middle Tennessee,

The snow event is forecast to be over by noon Wednesday but the cold temperatures will probably linger through the weekend.

The National Weather Service in Nashville estimated that between 1 and 6 inches of snow could fall across the Middle Tennessee region.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin to develop Tuesday afternoon, becoming heavier throughout the day.
