The New York Liberty's star-studded squad was missing something as the 2024 regular season came to a close. Although a team with Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart finished with a WNBA-best 32-8 record, head coach Sandy Brondello decided that rookie forward Leonie Fiebich needed to be in the starting lineup when the playoffs began.
The Valkyries lean on their rebounding skills to score in transition. In their dominant win against the Aces, the Valkyries held double-double machine and one of the league's best rebounders, A'ja Wilson, to only six boards. Golden State's intensity on the glass also helped secure the win against the Sparks in an overtime contest.
New York, off to its best start in franchise history, scored the first 12 points of the game and cruised from there.
Losing to the Atlanta Dream on Friday night, the Chicago Sky are now riding a three-game losing streak. This skid has dropped Chicago's overall record to 2-7, with its only two wins coming against the Dallas Wings who entered the day 1-10 and last in the WNBA standings.
