A Texas measles outbreak has doubled in the last week to 124 cases, state health officials said Tuesday, a day after they warned a person infected with the highly contagious disease had traveled from the outbreak zone.

State health officials confirm an individual with the disease was in multiple high-traffic areas in and around San Antonio, New Braunfels and San Marcos during the Valentine's Day weekend.

Angela Solis, a pharmacist at Martin's Wellness and Compounding Pharmacies, said measles is the most contagious respiratory illness. She said interest in the MMR vaccine has increased at the pharmacies since the Texas measles outbreak began.

As the measles outbreak in West Texas continues to grow, one Austin-area pharmacy said they are seeing an increase in people inquiring about the MMR vaccine. It comes as state health officials announced the first measles death in the country,

A person who was hospitalized with measles has died from measles in West Texas, the first death in an outbreak that began late last month.
