The Chicago Cubs are not out of the race for Cody Bellinger yet, even though they face stiff competition from the Yankees and Mets.

The Chicago Cubs are closing in on a trade for Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera, according to Bleacher Nation and others. Trade rumors connecting Cabrera to the Yankees and Mets had ramped up in recent days.

The return is not yet known, but Jesse Rogers of ESPN notes that it is expected that the Cubs will be sending position player prospects to the Marlins.

Following the signing of Japanese standout Tatsuya Imai, a former outfielder who previously played with the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates—and had a brief stint with the New York Mets—has inked a deal with the Saitama Seibu Lions.

The New York Mets are still "very much" in the mix for outfielder Kyle Tucker, but they have some "stiff" competition, most notably the Toronto Blue Jays (with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the mix as well).
