Moon dust may be hiding a 100-million-year record of exploding stars
For more than half a century, tiny tubes of gray lunar dirt scooped up by Apollo astronauts have been sitting in NASA vaults. They’ve been prodded, sliced and analyzed to reveal the Moon’s geological past.
Last night's near-total lunar eclipse did not disappoint. In the second and final lunar eclipse of the year, our natural satellite transformed into a stunning red-orange "blood moon" as almost all of it fell under Earth's shadow.
