With Max Fried and Charlie Morton departing in free agency, combined with Spencer Strider‘s injury, the Braves have had an open competition among internal candidates for the final two spots on the Opening Day roster.

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson got the job done Thursday night against the Miami Marlins. He pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings allowing just one hit and struck out four. However, command issues plagued him throughout the game.

With Spencer Strider out, the Braves Opening Day rotation will feature two new faces, and there are now clear-cut leaders in the clubhouse after Friday’s performance against the Marlins.
