A strong storm system is going to bring us spring-like temperatures and possibly severe thunderstorms on the front side of the storm system. By Wednesday, we will have falling temperatures and a changeover to snow.

The afternoon severe weather update has increased the potential strength of any tornado that could form over the southern third of Lower Michigan. There is a distinct area that likely will get severe thunderstorms this evening and overnight.
Up to to 1.2 inches of rain is expected statewide by Saturday morning, March 7, according to the NWS Probabilistic Precipitation Portal. For Michigan's Thumb, accumulations may be lighter ranging from 0.01 to 0.6 of an inch of rain. Detroit is forecast to see a high of 55 degrees.
One of the Michigan tornadoes was an EF3 — a severe or strong storm on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which goes from zero to five, with five being the most destructive — and was the state's deadliest tornado day in 46 years. Five people died in a Michigan twister on May 13, 1980.
A powerful storm will bring a dangerous mix of severe thunderstorms, heavy freezing rain and significant snowfall across Michigan beginning this evening. And the forecast shows some Michigan residents will need to prepare for possible tornadoes.
