Defense Department leaders ordered the academy to remove books that promote diversity, equity and inclusion in response to Trump orders, a U.S. official said.

The U.S. Naval Academy is pitching almost 400 books from its library, in accordance with directives from the Trump administration to eliminate content related to diversity, equity and inclusion.

A Navy representative sent a statement Wednesday to 11 News, saying: "We can confirm the U.S. Naval Academy has removed nearly 400 books from their Nimitz Library collection in order to ensure compliance with all directives outlined in executive orders issued by the president.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth visited the Naval Academy for the first time since his confirmation in January.

It's another step in the Trump administration’s effort to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion content from federal agencies.
