Battery life for gaming handhelds is always a challenge but the tradeoffs for the Switch 2 appear to be particularly brutal. Nintendo has confirmed that the next-gen device will run for anywhere from 2-6.5 hours on a single charge depending on what you’re playing. It ain’t great. In fact, it’s somehow even worse than that of the original Switch.
The new console, set to be released in June, will cost $450 — thanks in part to tariffs on Chinese-manufactured goods.

At long last, Nintendo has confirmed the release date for the Switch 2 – the Switch's long-awaited successor will launch on June 5. Mercifully, that means that there's not too much longer to wait for it.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders will be available starting on April 9 2025. Nintendo account holders can register on the MyNintendo Store to receive an email when it's time to pre-order their console.
Various rumors sprouted up, reporting that Switch 2 would launch in late 2023, possibly in 2024 or 2025. Nintendo officially squashed a 2023 release in May when president Shuntaro Furukawa insisted that Nintendo had no hardware releases planned for the year.
As well as the above full exclusives, there’s a series of “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” titles, which are Switch 1 games “patched” to make the most out of the Switch 2 hardware. These are available as both “upgrade packs” if you own the Switch 1 version, or as standalone editions for the Switch 2:
