Defending champions RCB broke the record for the highest successful run chase in the Women's Premier League as they chased down 202 to beat Gujarat Giants by six wickets in Vadodara.

Star Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) player Richa Ghosh has credited her sensational performance in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 to pre-game match simulations. These strategic preparations proved instrumental in RCB's record-breaking run-chase against the Gujarat Giants.

Earlier, after being invited to bat first by toss winners RCB, GG got off to a steady start before Renuka Singh hit the stumps of Laura Wolvaardt (6), handing RCB their first wicket of WPL 2025. Dayalan Hemlatha (4) was then dismissed by Kanika Ahuja right after the powerplay, as the defending champions tightened their grip on GG’s batting line-up.

Richa Ghosh smashed 64, while Ellyse Perry made 57 runs off 34 deliveries as Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Gujarat Giants by six wickets in the opening game of the Women's Premier League 2025.

Set 202 to win, RCB thrived on a stunning 27-ball 64* (7X4, 4X6) from Richa Ghosh and a 34-ball 57 from Ellyse Perry to gun down the target with nine balls to spare. It marked the first occasion of a successful 200-plus run chase in WPL’s brief history and conclusively outshone an equally stunning six-hitting display from GG skipper Ashleigh Gardner.
