San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky gave an update on injured forwards Nikolai Kovalenko and Klim Kostin on Thursday.

With the puck inside the Columbus zone, a shot attempt by Sharks defenseman Jan Rutta was blocked by Zach Werenski, who raced up the ice with the puck, carried it into the Sharks’ zone, and sent it over to Fantilli, who beat Georgiev for his 11th goal of the season at the 12:11 mark.

They didn’t get to six goals, but the Blue Jackets did move into the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference over the Boston Bruins by extending their season-high winning streak to six straight games Thursday at Nationwide Arena.

Zach Werenski’s assist on Fantilli’s goal extended his home point streak to 18 games, tying Brian Leetch for the sixth-longest streak by a defenseman. The NHL record is held by Bobby Orr, who recorded points in 25 consecutive home games during the 1974-75 season.

The San Jose Sharks sit 31st in the league with a 14-26-6 record, making them a prime contender for top-end draft selection. With the Sharks in the midst of a rebuild, selling the team to gather draft assets is a priority.

A strong first two periods helped the Blue Jackets survive a third-period push from the Sharks before van Riemsdyk found the empty net.
