George Glezmann was detained while traveling in the country after the Taliban’s victory in the war. Secretary of State Marco Rubio thanked Qatar for helping to secure his release.

George Glezmann, an airline mechanic from Atlanta, is the third American detainee to be released by the Taliban since January. He was seized by the Taliban’s intelligence services in December 2022 and was designated by the U.S. government as wrongfully detained the following year.

The Trump administration has secured the release of an American who had been held by the Taliban in Afghanistan for two and a half years. The state department announced Thursday that George Glezmann, a Delta Airlines mechanic, was on his way home to Georgia to be reunited with his wife, Aleksandra.
