Several damaging tornadoes and grapefruit-size hail struck Illinois and Indiana late Tuesday amid a widespread severe-weather outbreak across the central United States.

The storm looked like something out of a weather textbook, and it produced both a large tornado and record hail in Illinois.

THREE RIVERS, MI - A spring-like storm turned violent quickly Friday afternoon, spawning at least two tornado touchdowns that damaged buildings, ripped apart part of a Menards store, and sent at least a few people to the hospital.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) began using a new severe weather forecasting product called Conditional Intensity Forecasts. They’ll be issued on top of the usual Categorical Outlooks.
