Trump's action followed a fast-tracked free-speech challenge by TikTok and its users that ended with a unanimous Supreme Court ruling days before Trump's inauguration, in which the justices held that national security concerns overcame their usual receptivity to First Amendment claims.

The Trump administration's work to find an American buyer for the short-video social media site TikTok is on track ahead of the April 5 deadline to reach a deal for non-Chinese ownership, Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday as bids mounted.

Despite the increasing number of potential buyers, neither the app nor its Chinese owner have confirmed they will do a deal.

Although it’s unclear if ByteDance plans to sell, several possible bidders have come forward ahead of a ban on the platform that’s set to go into effect on Saturday.

Amazon declined to comment, while TikTok and its parent company ByteDance did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment. Shares of Amazon rose 1.3 percent in a volume spike after the report.

Although it’s unclear if ByteDance plans to sell TikTok, several potential bidders have come forward in the past few months.
