A box office windfall in China has made Disney's sequel the fastest Hollywood animated film to reach $1 billion
A third movie has just joined 2025’s billion-dollar club: Zootopia 2. On the worldwide box office rankings for this year, it’s currently nipping at the heels of the live-action Lilo & Stitch, though it’s still a ways behind the clear number one, Chinese animation sensation Ne Zha II.
"Zootopia 2" brings back iconic duo Judy Hopps, played by Ginnifer Goodwin ("Once Upon A Time"), and Nick Wilde, played by Jason Bateman ("Black Rabbit"), as they team up again to solve a new case that's taking place one week after the first movie.
The Zootopia 2 soundtrack debuts at No. 6 on Billboard ’s Kid Albums chart (dated Dec. 13), while Vince Guaraldi Trio’s soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas extends its record for the most weeks at No. 1, holding atop the list for a 125th nonconsecutive week.
Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman return for the sequel alongside a few new A-list additions, including Ke Huy Quan, Quinta Brunson and more.
The Zootopia franchise is no stranger to riffing on and paying tribute to classic movies and television shows. The first Zootopia features an amusing Breaking Bad reference, and the character Mr. Big (Maurice LaMarche) is a fairly obvious homage toThe Godfather.
Shakira, who voices Gazelle in the Zootopia films, discussed her work on the song “Zoo,” the anthem of Zootopia 2. In a recent interview, the singer-songwriter said that the song was about people relying on one another for support and enjoying the moment.
