India and Pakistan have exchanged gunfire for a fourth night in a row in the wake of a deadly attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir last week.

Michael Kugelman, a Washington-based South Asia analyst and writer for the Foreign Policy magazine, said India is now a much closer U.S. partner than Pakistan.

The United States reiterated its support for India following the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, where more than two dozen people were killed. Pakistan has denied any involvement and called for a neutral investigation.
