Tropical Storm Erin is forecast to strengthen into the first hurricane of the Atlantic season by Saturday morning and then become a major Category 3 hurricane by Sunday morning as it passes north of Puerto Rico. But as of now, Erin is not expected to pose a direct threat to the U.S.

See Erin’s latest track, which is expected to avoid land. Distant impacts from the storm are expected in the northern Caribbean.

Forecast model tracks show a turn or curve to the northwest and north. This turn is expected to keep Erin 400-500+ miles off the Southeast Coast. We will watch the forecast models closely in case there are any shifts in the forecast track. Right now, confidence is increasing Erin does not directly impact Coastal Georgia or the Lowcountry.
