Prosecutors filed a felony charge against Billy Mason after he escaped from custody at Hennepin County Jail on Sunday while awaiting transfer to another facility, according to court records.

According to a statement provided Monday by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Billy Mason, 46, fled on foot through an open security garage door of the Minneapolis jail as he was being prepared to be transported with other prisoners a little before 2 p.m. Sunday. Mason was handcuffed with a waistbelt at the time.

The press release says the man ran through an open security garage door of the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility at 1:53 p.m. Sunday while handcuffed with a waistbelt.
