Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday formally announced he is running as an independent for New York City's mayor, less than one month after he lost to Zohran Mamdani in the Democratic primary.
The shocking vote of confidence came despite Mayor Eric Adams, who has repeatedly cozied up to Trump, also vying for re-election on an independent line in the general race. Adams has attacked Cuomo for staying in the race, claiming that he alone should be the one to take on Mamdani in November.
Cuomo vowed Monday to remain in the race, weeks after he was trounced by Zohran Mamdani in the Democratic primary.
