Georgetown University scholar Badar Khan Suri was released from a federal detention center in Texas on Wednesday, marking at least the third time a detained student or academic targeted by the Trump administration because of their protest activity or affiliation was released from immigration detention.

Badar Khan Suri, a postdoctoral fellow, was arrested in March at his home in Virginia over alleged ties to Hamas, a designated terrorist organisation.

DALLAS, TX – Badar Khan Suri, a Georgetown University researcher, has been released on the order of a federal judge from an immigration detention center in Texas. The ruling allows the Indian national and postdoctoral fellow to return to his Virginia home as his legal team continues to challenge his detention in court.
