Here's the latest update on Cooper Flagg's status when the Dallas Mavericks face the Philadelphia 76ers in NBA Summer League action on Wednesday:
Even without Flagg and Gonzaga’s Ryan Nembhard, multiple Mavs showed sparks in Wednesday afternoon’s 90-82 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
While Flagg looked good with the ball in his hands, he looked better playing off it, and that will be more of his role in Dallas where D'Angelo Russell in the short term and Kyrie Irving long term (once healthy), not to mention Anthony Davis, will facilitate the offense most of the time.
With that in mind, the legendary Shaquille O'Neal spoke out and weighed in on Flagg and his future with the Mavericks. As shared by Alyssa Cooper of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, O'Neal is a big fan of Flagg landing in Dallas.
Cooper Flagg only played in two NBA 2K Summer League games before the Dallas Mavericks pulled their top draft pick from the Las Vegas event. They had seen enough after the Mavericks forward scored 31 points Sunday during a 76-69 loss against the San Antonio Spurs, shooting 10-of-21 from the field with four rebounds and an assist.
The Dallas Mavericks saw everything they needed to see from No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg during his stint at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Following two games, the Mavericks elected to shut down the promising rookie for the remainder of the exhibitions, allowing Flagg to shift his focus to what's next.
Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg ’s NBA Summer League run is expected to be over in Las Vegas. The Mavericks will shut down the rookie for the rest of the exhibition tournament after just two games, according to ESPN 's Tim MacMahon.
