General Motors and Hyundai Motor on Wednesday outlined plans to develop five vehicles together as they seek to lower costs amid growing competition from nimble Chinese rivals, although some analysts questioned whether the plan would work.

The carmakers sealed a partnership in 2024 to jointly develop vehicles, engines and clean technologies such as electric and hydrogen powertrains.

The brands will team up on four passenger vehicles for Central and South American markets, plus a commercial EV van set to be built in the U.S.
