With the troublesome Snow White in Disney’s rearview mirror, the company is looking ahead to its next live-action adaptation… and beyond. Lilo & Stitch opens Friday and is tracking to be a big hit —and Disney, which was said to be re-thinking its remake strategy after Snow White, is already eagerly plotting a follow-up.

Disney’s live-action remakes/re-imaginings have been a staple for more than a decade, with titles raided again including “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Jungle Book,” “Mulan,” “Dumbo,” “Pinocchio” and “Snow White.” Here’s hoping “Lilo & Stitch” convinces the studio to generate some new stories.

Step aside, Moana, Elsa and Simba. In recent years, Stitch has quietly become one of Disney’s most popular — and most merchandised — characters.
