Iran launched a new attack on Israel early on Monday, striking Tel Aviv and the northern port city of Haifa in a fourth day of open warfare. Three people were killed in the country’s centre, while dozens more were injured in the overnight strikes, Israeli media said.
Former Vice President Mike Pence said on “State of the Union” Sunday that if Israel’s attack doesn’t somehow convince Iran to make major concessions in Trump’s diplomatic attempt to end its nuclear program, then the United States should be prepared to join the conflict.
Israel’s campaign, militarily and rhetorically, has quickly evolved beyond its initial targets. Over the weekend, it hit Iran’s energy facilities, including a gas depot and an oil refinery, triggering huge fires and spewing smoke across the sprawling capital of about ten million people.
US President Donald Trump is expected to present Iran with a “last chance” offer, US and European officials told The Jerusaem Post on Monday. One official added that it might even be slightly better than the previous proposal the administration submitted to the Iranians about a week and a half ago.
