The latest development in a years-long push by South Texas farmers and officials to get Mexico to fulfill a 1944 treaty would still fall short of what is owed.

Mexico agreed to provide water to South Texas farmers on Monday, just weeks after President Trump threatened to impose tariffs and sanctions against the neighbor to the south.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said on Monday that Mexico would increase its water shipments to Texas to help make up a shortfall under a 1944 treaty that outlines water-sharing between the countries.
