California Gov. Gavin Newsom asked a federal judge to quickly block the Trump administration's deployment of National Guard members and Marines to Los Angeles. Trump authorized the deployment to quell protests against federal immigration enforcement actions.

California on Tuesday asked a federal court for a temporary restraining order blocking the Trump administration's deployment of National Guard forces and U.S. Marines to Los Angeles.

The temporary restraining order request alleges the deployment “escalates tensions and promotes (rather than quells) civil unrest.”

The California Governor has sued the U.S. President over the mobilization of the National Guard, calling it “an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.”

California Attorney General Rob Bonta said Monday that he’ll soon file a lawsuit against the Trump administration for federalizing National Guard troops this weekend.

Protests surrounding immigration enforcement actions in the Los Angeles area and the Trump administration's response to them have cued up a public spat between President Trump and Gov. Newsom.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday defended the administration's mobilization of the National Guard and members of the Marine Corps to Los Angeles amid ongoing immigration protests.
