This is one of the few crossings on the OTT you can take an off-road caravan. There are two options for crossing. The main 4WD track or a short causeway section. The more challenging track is a steep drop into the creek. The water crossing is about 40 metres to the red dirt exit.

Oct 7, 2017 · A few crossings later is the legendary Gunshot Creek—probably the most-famous four-wheel drive obstacle on the YouTube. It’s a massively eroded, steep bank that has put more than one vehicle put on its roof, and plenty of rear tires in the air while the fronts are still firmly planted on terra firma.

Gunshot Creek: It's a major obstacle that provides a challenge to most vehicles. It is not advisable to tow campervans or trailers through this crossing – there is a detour track, well-signposted, before you reach Gunshot Creek.

The track is littered with creek crossings, challenging terrain and unspoilt wilderness, heralding its iconic reputation for four-wheel drive enthusiasts. If you look carefully, you may even spot one of the old Telegraph poles still standing, as many have been knocked over or souvenired.

The only creek crossing is Cholmondeley which is fairly easy. At Gunshot there is room to camp so you can hang around and watch the action. There is usually a chicken (side) track or two if you want to keep going.

Nolans crossing the next day (24/6) took us 4 hours to successfully pass. Jess Thomas, in testing the depth was in water up to her neck, with the major problem being she was constantly stumbling and falling due to moving sand making up the creek bed.

For most 4WD entusiests driving the Old Telegraph Track (OTT) is the ultimate challenge and with its abundance of crystal clear creek crossings, spectacular landscapes, difficult terrain and sheer remoteness it’s not hard to see why. The OTT is mostly travelled south to north.
