New York was led by the inspirational play of injured center Willis Reed, who limped onto the court and scored the game’s first 2 baskets, and guard Walt ''Clyde'' Frazier, who led the Knicks with 36 points, 19 assists and 7 rebounds. 🏀On May 7, 1972 with a 114-100 win the Lakers defeated the New York Knicks 4-1 in the NBA Finals, capturing their first league championship since moving to Los Angeles from Minneapolis. Wilt Chamberlain dominated the middle for the Lakers, flirting with what would've been a quadruple-double with 24 points, 29 rebounds, 8 blocks and 8 assists in 47 minutes. Blocked shots were not an official NBA stat at that time, but ABC announcer Keith Jackson counted them up during the broadcast. Walt ''Clyde
