One of the most common questions I get is “why do you tap the mushrooms?” The biggest misconception is that I do this to spread spores, to be very explicit - mushrooms are fully capable of spreading spores on their own. I tap mushrooms for a variety of reasons: to test the density/maturing, to help knock off dirt, to chase away bugs/critters, and because it is FUN!
