On August 12, 2024, the Joliet Communications Center received calls of two people who had fallen into the Des Plaines River near Bicentennial Park. Joliet Police Officers arrived on scene and found community members using a bike as a make-shift "hold item" to help an adult female who was still in the river. Officers deployed a water-rescue throw-bag to then help keep the female afloat. Joliet Fire Department personnel arrived and were able to use a float ring & ladder to safely rescue the female
